To take our For Kinks Collection from kinky, to curly, or straight and back to curly use this style guide to achieve lasting results.
Prep (All Styles):
- Always start with freshly washed and conditioned hair for best results using our Perfect Extensions Kit for Kinky/Curly Textures.
- Fully detangle your extensions in sections with our High Definition Curlbrush.
- Use a lightweight heat protectant to prevent heat damage.
Tips for a Natural Blowout:
1️⃣ Blow-Dry First: Use a hot air brush or blow dryer on low to moderate heat to stretch and smooth out the hair.
2️⃣ Use a Flat Iron on Medium Heat:
- We only recommend one to two passes with the flat iron to ensure the texture is not compromised. You are not attempting to "silk press" the hair, so you do want to remove all texture but most of it. Do not use heat above 400 degrees.
Tips for Voluminous Curl Wands:
1️⃣ Blow-Dry First: Use a hot air brush or blow dryer on low to moderate heat to stretch and smooth out the curls.
2️⃣Curl Wand/Curling Iron as desired. For lasting curls, curl hair is small section, using a 1” or 1.5” heat tool.
- Apply a light amount of holding spray to each curl.
- Set the curls with pins and allow time for the curls to cool.
- Once hair is cool, remove the pins, use a wide tooth comb to fluff hair
How to Maintain Your Extensions After Heat Styling
Virgin hair extensions are just as susceptible to heat damage and loss of curl pattern as your natural hair. While our textures are versatile, heat styling should be done sparingly if you still want to wear your extensions in their natural texture.
- After styling, keep your For Kinks extensions moisturized by using our Curlfix Leave-In Spray.
- Do not reapply heat continuously; instead, use styling tools like heatless curlers or pins to maintain or refresh the curls.
- Sleep with a silk/satin scarf to avoid frizz or dryness.
- Revert your curls to their original texture by washing them with a moisturizing shampoo and deep conditioner, check out this care guide.
These tips are perfect for occasional heat styling, but if you are looking for a silken look or prefer a straightened look, we highly recommend purchasing our Blow Out or Silk Press Collection.
Our extensions can be successfully heat styled, but we create our textures using a steam process, so improper thermal styling—especially on our coarse kinky texture—may compromise the integrity of the hair.
