I am experiencing tangling, how can I prevent this?
Our 100% virgin human hair extensions are created to mimic the curls, kinks, and coils of natural hair, you will have to maintain it with the right hair care regime to ensure the longevity of your extensions. To avoid tangling, you must shampoo, condition, and gently detangle your extensions just as you would the hair that’s growing out of your scalp.
Here are some tips to help you detangle, revitalize, and maintain your kinky-curly hair extensions while preserving the integrity of the hair:
Moisture
Always start your detangling process on wet hair and conditioned hair. When hair is saturated with water, and a slippery conditioner is applied, the hair is lubricated. This allows the hair strands to slip, glide and slide past each other, preventing and releasing tangles. Check out this visual here.
Detangle in Sections
After the application of water and conditioner, split your hair into small sections (working in sections will allow for more manageability). Starting from the bottom, using a detangling brush for thick hair, slowly and gently work your way up to the root (or weft) of the extensions. Although tangles can exist throughout the shaft of the hair, starting from the root (or weft) of the extensions will create more tangles as you move your detangling tool towards the bottom of the hair. It is better to release tangles and knots and the ends of the hair first, as the hair at the root (or weft) doesn’t hang loosely to interact with other strands of hair causing more tangles.
Using the right hair care system
To ensure the longevity of your extensions, we recommend using our Hair Extensions Care Products which are specially formulated to provide everything you need from the start to the end of your wash and styling routine. Hair products make all the difference in whether your extensions tangle or are soft and manageable.
What to avoid
We tend to avoid products that contain heavy oils, creams, or gels as they can cause matting and tangling. The more products you use, the more you will need to wash your extensions, leading to dry, tangled extensions. Consider using lightweight products for best results.
When possible, avoid salt and chlorinated water to prevent matting and tangling. For more, you can check out this support article.
Daily maintenance
Avoid unnecessary friction when going to bed sleep with a satin pillowcase, scarf, or bonnet, or place the hair in a "pineapple".
Allow time for the extensions to thoroughly dry before heading out, going to bed, or fluffing the hair. Use a blow dryer or diffuser to shorten the drying time.
Limit heat styling and always use a heat protectant.
Storage
You can enjoy your extensions for multiple wears, and we encourage you that when your extensions are taking a break, they should be freshly washed and stored away in your black satin bag in an airtight container until you are ready to use them again. Storing your extensions in extreme temperatures can cause them to become dry and brittle.
Make these tips part of your curl care regimen, and your extensions will love you for it!
